The Drama League Director Project

Celebrating 25 years of building artists for the American Theatre...

"Simply put, if it wasn't for the Directors Project,
I wouldn't be directing theatre in New York today. "
~John Rando, Fall Program '92
Tony Award-winning director of Urinetown

"The Drama League's commitment to young directors is
unparalleled. The degree of support and respect they give you is
astonishing. The opened the door to my professional career
and continue to be there for advice, encouragement,
and an invaluable sense of community."
~ Diane Paulus, Drama League Fall Program '97
Artistic Director, American Repertory Theatre

"What is unique about the Directors Project is the observing,
the meet-and-greeting that goes on: these young directors
are actually given a show to direct. The Directors Project
addresses the American theatre's biggest need: talented,
intelligent, versatile directors who work all the time."
~ Andre Bishop, Artistic Director, Lincoln Center

SUMMER DIRECTING PROGRAM

The Drama League's Summer Directing Project is a very competitive program. This year there were seventy-seven applicants. From those that applied sixteen were chosen for an interview, and of those sixteen, only four directors become Drama League fellows. To see what the 2009 Directors Project Summer Directors are doing at The Hanger Theatre over the summer visit their blog. The blog is an opportunity for them to share their experiences in their own words.
