Drama League Welcomes Its First Company-In-Residence

June 6, 2013

The Drama League is proud to announce its partnership with its inaugural company-in-residence, Bastard Playground, who will make the Stewart F. Lane and Bonnie Comley Studio Lab their home starting this month. The team of talented and diverse artists behind Bastard Playground is Maggie-Kate Coleman, Sam Pinkleton, EllaRose Chary, Erato A. Kremmyda, Chantal Pavageaux and Jay Stull.

Bastard Playground is a monthly meeting for artists working in live performance to come together and share new and incubating work in any state.  Artists are strongly encouraged to work outside the form with which they are most closely identified by trade. Work shared in the past has ranged from script pages to clown show, from dance improvisation to video installation — and most things in between.  Bastard Playground encourages a flexible idea of genre and strong sense of play, support, humor, and misbehavior among its ever-changing groups of attendees. It is a safe place for artists to leave their artistic comfort zone in a warm and weird room of delightful people from many disciplines, receiving however much or little feedback as they would like. Meetings are two hours long, facilitated by core or founding members of the Playground, and often spill into the nearest bar for hours following.

The next Bastard Playground will take place at the Drama League Theater Center on Sunday, June 16 at 6.30pm.  The Bastards would like to invite artists affiliated with the Drama League to join them on the Playground. If you are interested in presenting work, fill out the submission form and email it to bastard.playground@gmail.com.

Please join us in welcoming Bastard Playground to our Drama League family.
